October
9th October: We marked Back Care Awareness Week with advice for staff including improving posture and sitting properly at desks.
10th October: Medium secure service users used art therapy to demonstrate their feelings to mark World Mental Health Day and we shared their designs online. Much later, the designs would be shortlisted by the Department of Health for the cover illustration of the Mental Health Code of Practice.
13th October: The Chief Executive, Director of Finance and Director of Strategy officially launched this year’s Flu Fighter campaign across the Trust by getting the first jabs of the season.
17th October: A powerful and moving testimonial from a female service user was the highlight of this year’s Excellence in Research, Innovation and Collaboration event held at a local hotel. 100 people heard her experiences of Dialectical Behaviour Therapy: “If it wasn't for DBT I would not have got this far. Wish I had it 10 years ago." The Trust is leading with this therapy and seeing very positive outcomes which we should be proud of, as was noted by guest keynote speaker Professor Kenneth Wilson (pictured below), the Clinical Director of the North West Coast Clinical Research Network.
The People in Research Forum tweeted that it was “great to see people with learning disabilities playing an active role as co-researchers and co-presenters”. The chairman closed the day by saying he is moved and proud of the Trust’s Research and Development which benefits service users.
