Conference Report
They presented research done in collaboration with the women who were the first cohort within the Trust to undergo Dialectical Behaviour Therapy.
The presentation was entitled ‘Experiences of Women with Learning Disabilities Undergoing the Introduction of Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT)’.
In October, the Trust hosted a well-received and often incredibly moving Research Showcase event at the Mercure Foxfields Hotel in Billington.
Michaela presented the DBT research in partnership with the women involved, who spoke powerfully of their own experiences and personal successes. Experts, guests and senior staff also heard about the Spheres of Wellbeing work and research into LGBT support in secure settings.
The Trust's Research and Development Manager Paula Johnson and Michaela Thomson (Research Practitioner) represented us at the major recent NHS Research and Development North West Annual Conference in Bolton.
Several Calderstones experts have contributed to books and conferences this year, including Phil Clayton, who co-edited ‘Cognitive Analytic Therapy for People With Intellectual Disabilities and Their Carers’, and Dr Paul Withers, head of our Psychological Treatment Service, whose chapter on our LGBT group is in Health Education North West’s 'Celebrating Interprofessional Learning Success'
Expert guests: Moira Winters and Professor Kenneth Wilson at our conference with the Trust’s Research and Development Manager Paula Johnson (centre)
